Neiman Marcus Group Plans Store Layoffs

As the Neiman Marcus Group is emerging out of bankruptcy, the company is restructuring both its Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman business. In its latest move, the company plans to layoff a number of “selling and non-selling associates,” according to a company spokesperson.

“This change is substantial and incredibly difficult, but we must ensure we have the right structure and right size team in place that matches our reduced financial forecast,” said Geoffroy van Raemdonck, chief executive officer of the Neiman Marcus Group, in a letter to vendors.

The Neiman Group’s plans to layoff employees comes at a time when the company is making efforts to further streamline its business, much like other retailers that are now putting more focus on improving their digital sales and offerings. Earlier this month, Neiman Marcus replaced its storied Fall Book with a new digital campaign called “Neiman’s State of Mind.” The campaign features shoppable editorial stories and focuses on how customers can get back into their routines with products that can help them refresh and rejuvenate their outlook and style.

Neiman Marcus also launched a digital hub dubbed “Your Neiman’s” that allows customers to interact with a variety of new virtual offerings focussed on luxury services and experiences. The offering serves customers who want to shop but have reservations about returning in-store to make their purchases.

Raemdonck did not specify how many layoffs would occur. The company currently employees just about 12,000 people.
