CVS plans to integrate PayPal and Venmo QR codes into its checkout experience across all of its 8,200 stores nationwide.

Thanks to a PayPal collaboration with InComm, a payments technology company, CVS customers will have access to more contactless payment options to choose from at the point of sale.

This partnership is an extension of CVS’s efforts to expand on its mobile and digital payment offerings and aims to help ease consumers’ wariness when it comes to shopping in-store.

“PayPal and Venmo QR codes offer our customers a secure and touch-free way to complete their purchase with a payment brand they know and trust,” Jon Roberts, executive vice president and COO of CVS Health.

“This reflects our continued focus on innovation and finding new ways to help maintain the safety of our customers and employees.”

The new payment offering will allow CVS customers to pay for their items with PayPal or Venmo, without having to pay a transaction fee. Shoppers will be able to use the stored debit cards, credit cards, bank accounts, PayPal balance, PayPal credit, Venmo balance or Venmo Rewards linked with their respective PayPal or Venmo accounts.

The integration will take place nationally in the fourth quarter of 2020, according to a company statement.

Earlier this month, Venmo also announced the roll out of “Business Profiles,” a pilot aiming to give sole proprietors visibility on Venmo’s social feed and search function, while also keeping their personal and business transactions separate for bookkeeping.
