On Wednesday, Adidas named Amanda Rajkumar as its new human resources chief. The placement comes four months after the company’s former HR chief Karen Parkin stepped down from the executive board and left her position at the company.
Parkin’s departure came after calls by Adidas employees to investigate her approach to solving racial problems in the workplace, according to the WSJ. Reports of racial issues are nothing new for the German athletic wear. The company has for years faced criticism that it does not treat its employees of color fairly but finds a way to profit off partnerships featuring Black celebrities.
Since the news has been brought to light, Adidas says that it has developed a list of to-dos in order to eliminate and abolish inequality in the workplace. Shortly after this list was created, Parkin made her departure.
Rajkumar will now be heading the company’s initiative to execute on the agenda.
“Adidas is one of the most popular employers worldwide and diversity characterizes Adidas like few other companies. We not only want to maintain this position, we want to strengthen it and make Adidas a truly diverse, inclusive, people-driven and equitable company. I am confident that with Amanda Rajkumar in this important leadership role and the continued strong commitment and dedication of our nearly 60,000 employees, we will succeed in doing so,” said Kasper Rorsted, CEO at Adidas.
Formally beginning of 2021, Amanda Rajkumar will assume the position as the HR chief and will head the company’s global human resources department. In her role, she will be joining a six-member strong executive board.
“I am hugely excited to be joining Adidas, a company as popular as it is well known. Adidas has a prominent and rich history in this extraordinary industry and has already accomplished so much but can still achieve so much more,” Rajkumar said. “The talent and creativity within the firm speaks for itself and I cannot wait to immerse myself in the employee base and culture. With the company’s core values aligned to my own, I am thrilled about the opportunity to help shape and define the future of Adidas.”
