eCommerce marketplace Etsy is expanding on its online offerings to appeal to consumers that are continuing to stay at home and spending more on home improvement.

The company recently rolled out an augmented reality (AR) tool on its mobile app aimed at helping shoppers to visualize art, prints and photos in their homes. While the feature is still being tested in beta mode, once it is fully rolled out, Etsy’s nearly 46 million active buyers will be able to test and shop for more than five million products listed in its arts and collectibles category, the company announced in a press release.

The company’s product and engineering team reportedly developed the feature to offer a more visual shopping experience to buyers. Using the AR feature, shoppers can point their camera toward empty spaces and get a better sense of the size, look and feel of the art work in their surroundings. The feature is currently available on its iOS app and will be rolled out for Android at a later stage.

The company reportedly joins a growing list of eCommerce sites, including Asos, Kendra Scott and L’Oreal that have recently debuted AR features to offer a more engaging omnichannel shopping experience to their customers. These platforms fall in the footsteps of home improvement platform Houzz, which has been offering the AR feature since 2017.

With a growing share of retailers and consumers embracing the technology, the overall AR and virtual reality market is projected to reach $18.8 billion in value by the end of this year, according to Retail Dive.
