Pinterest Expands Beauty AR Try-On Experience To Eyeshadow

Pinterest has launched a new augmented reality try-on tool that allows customers to virtually experiment with eyeshadow products from different brands, all from the comfort of their homes.

“If you see it, you can shop it. We’re introducing more ways to try on and shop trends from your camera and within the products in Pins. Today we’re launching our latest augmented reality feature — AR Try on for eyeshadow, with products from Lancome, YSL, Urban Decay, and NYX Cosmetics,” the company said in a statement made on Friday.

With its AR try-on experience, which is being powered by Lens, the company is looking to enable Pinterest users that are looking for beauty inspiration to try on and shop for different products to complete their look.

Users can utilize the feature from their iOS or Android Pinterest app by clicking the Lens camera in search. From there, they can browse eyeshadows, try on in-stock shades and make purchases.

Additionally, Pinterest users can also filter product results by color, price range and brand, save pinboards for later, or view a “more like this” section to see additional Pins featuring similar shades and filter recommendations by their own skin tone range.

The solution follows efforts to improve the platform’s product tagging feature. Pinterest users are 70 percent more likely to shop tagged products featured within images than standalone Product Pins.

“In addition to eyeshadow Try on, we’re also expanding our product tagging beta, with access opening up to some advertisers today, and to creators to create shoppable Story Pins and tag products, in the coming months,” the company noted.

These offerings come at a time when consumers are continuing to spend more time at home due to COVID-19.
