Bottega Veneta and Daniel Lee have announced their joint decision to end their collaboration.

Lee took over the creative director position at the Milan-based brand in July 2018 and since then has worked to recognize the brand, giving it newfound momentum, which Bottega Veneta continues to enjoy today.

Before joining Bottega Veneta, Lee worked for fashion Houses in London, New York, and Paris. Lee was born in Bradford, England, and he graduated in 2011 from the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design.

“I would like to thank Daniel for his dedication to the House over the past three years. He provided Bottega Veneta with a fresh perspective and a new sense of modernity while remaining respectful of the brand’s fifty-year heritage. The remarkable growth of the brand over the last three years bears testimony to the success of his creative work,” said Leo Rongone, CEO of Bottega Veneta.

During Lee’s time at Bottega Veneta, the designer looked to reenergize a luxury label that was largely popular among the wealthy by taking its logoless aesthetic and intrecciato signature leather and packing it with punch and color. Today, Bottega Veneta is famous for its modern designs and bold colors while still staying true to the quality of its leather products.

Just a year after Lee took over the creative reigns, the label witnessed its sales rise by 2.2 percent to nearly €1.2 billion. Moreover, the brand continued to see growth even during the coronavirus pandemic.

Under Lee’s direction, Bottega Veneta also went dark on social media, cutting all ties with every platform. The move was considered bold, but it forced the label to rely on influencers for coverage heavily. With that, influencers spun up a new narrative dubbed “New Bottega,” a homage to Lee’s creative influence.

“My time at Bottega Veneta has been an incredible experience. I am grateful to have worked with an exceptional and talented team and I am forever thankful to everyone who was part of creating our vision. Thank you to Francois-Henri Pinault for his support and for the opportunity to be part of Bottega Veneta’s story,” said Lee.

A new creative organization for the House is expected to be announced soon.
