In an effort to honor Virgil Abloh, who recently passed away late last month at the age of 41 from a rare and aggressive form of cancer called cardiac angiosarcoma, global marketplace, GlossWire, has revealed that it will donate $1 for every download of its app to support the mission of the Virgil Abloh “Post-Modern” Scholarship Fund, which aims to foster equity and inclusion within the fashion industry.

“At a time when many have sought to advance equity and inclusion in the fashion industry, Virgil made a direct and immeasurable impact. It was Virgil’s dream to identify, connect with, and support, as he often said, the ’17-year-old version’ of himself,” stated Fashion Scholarship Fund Executive Director Peter Arnold.

“Out there are many young adults who deserve the chance and the ‘way in’ he was committed to providing. The Virgil Abloh™ ‘Post-Modern’ Scholarship Fund, and the generation of future Scholars the Fashion Scholarship Fund will support, are our opportunity to carry out the personal legacy Virgil designed and built with focus and determination.”

The Virgil Abloh “Post-Modern” Scholarship Fund was originally established in 2020 by Abloh himself and the Fashion Scholarship Fund to identify and foster equity and inclusion within the fashion industry by providing scholarships to students of academic promise of Black, African-American, or African descent. Abloh named the fund “Post-Modern” to represent those recipients receiving funds and the fact that they would be given access to vital career support services as well as mentoring.

The Virgil Abloh “Post-Modern” class of 2021 obtained design, merchandising and marketing internships at companies including Brandon Maxwell, Estée Lauder, Louis Vuitton, Neiman Marcus, Tommy Hilfiger and Rimowa.

To date, twenty “Post-Modern” recipients have received $7,500 college scholarship awards through the initiative. The next class will be announced in early 2022.

Abloh was an artist, architect, engineer, creative director, and designer born in Rockford, Illinois, in 1980. He earned a degree in civil engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and then went on to complete his master’s degree in architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology in a curriculum founded by Mies van der Rohe.

In 2012, Abloh launched the brand Off-White c/o Virgil Abloh™️ as an artwork titled “PYREX VISION.” The following year, the brand premiered a seasonal men’s and women’s collection during the Paris Fashion Week. And in 2015, Off-White c/o Virgil Abloh™️ became one of the finalists of the LVMH Prize. Earlier this year, LVMH acquired a majority stake in Off-White LLC.

LVMH and Abloh also announced the expansion of their relationship to launch new brands and partner with existing ones in a variety of sectors beyond the realm of fashion.

Abloh is survived by his wife Shannon Abloh, his children Lowe Abloh and Grey Abloh, his sister Edwina Abloh, his parents Nee and Eunice Abloh and numerous dear friends and colleagues.
