British luxury department store Harrods has opened a second location of The Residence, its invitation-only space where customers can indulge in cultural events and shopping, in Beijing, China.
The new location, which boasts its own private restaurant, will offer customers access to exclusive products such as high jewelry, haute couture and watches, and serve as a space for social events for its local customers.
Harrods also operates another location in Shanghai, where it first brought a three-day pop-up experience of The Residence in 2019. The luxury retailer then went onto open a permanent location in the city last year.
The opening of the second location in China is part of Harrods’ strategy to boost sales in the lucrative Chinese market and offset losses arising from disruption in travel between China and the U.K.
While the company has a relatively smaller customer base in China, consumers in the Chinese market spend more at Harrods than British customers, Business of Fashion reported.
