Kohl’s has partnered up with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) as part of its ongoing commitment to mental health and wellness.

The company’s philanthropic arm, Kohl’s Cares, will be donating $2 million over a duration of two years to NAMI. The donation aims to revitalize the company’s support for mental health and well-being issues as well as expand its reach to additional people, especially those in ethnically diverse communities across the United States.

Furthermore, the program will help promote trauma-informed, cross-cultural training and materials to better support people whose mental health has been impacted by trauma by COVID-19 and its related economic uncertainty.

“We’re confident that our new partnership with NAMI will make a positive impact in the lives of countless families across the country who are affected by mental illness,” said Greg Revelle, Kohl’s chief marketing officer in a company statement.

“We see this relationship as a natural extension of our long-standing commitment to healthy families and an important part of our continued focus on health and holistic well-being.”

According to NAMI, the support is being made available at no cost to individuals with mental illness and friends and family members who care for them. Additionally, NAMI Family Support Groups are being offered to people experiencing mental health conditions, while the organization’s Connection Support Groups are available to any adult 18 years or older with a mental health condition.

“The need for our support groups has risen dramatically in response to the stress and uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, especially for youth and young adults and people in underserved communities,” said NAMI chief executive officer Daniel H. Gillison, Jr.

To further its commitment to health and wellness, Kohl’s is also joining NAMI’s StigmaFree Company initiative, a program that identifies and assists companies with developing a culture of openness, acceptance, and understanding about employees’ overall health and well-being. In addition, Kohl’s has also invested in other mental health resources, including a collection of resources for its associates called Be Well at Kohl’s, which includes numerous materials for Kohl’s associates and their families focusing on mental health and well-being.
