Walmart today announced its plans to acquire Zeekit, an Israel-based company that specializes in offering virtual fitting room solutions. The acquisition is aimed at enabling Walmart shoppers to shop for clothes online more easily.
“Virtual try-on is a game-changer and solves what has historically been one of the most difficult things to replicate online — understanding fit and how an item will actually look on you,” said Denise Incandela, Walmart U.S.’s executive vice president of apparel and private brands.
“Zeekit will help us deliver an inclusive, immersive and personalized experience for our diverse customer base.”
The company’s solution allows shoppers to virtually try on products using augmented reality (AR) technology. The company currently works with players such as Adidas, Farfetch and Tommy Hilfiger.
Walmart is not the first player that is looking to use AR technology for improving eCommerce experiences. Earlier this year, Snap acquired Berlin-based Fit Analytics to deliver AR-powered experiences to its app users.
