Beyond Meat and PepsiCo plan to launch meatless jerky as the first product under their joint PLANeT Partnership venture.

The product will be made available in grocery stores starting this month in three flavors and will be made using peas and mung beans.

The product’s launch comes more than a year after the two companies announced their joint initiative to develop plant-based snacks and drinks.

The partnership is allowing PepsiCo to expand its investments in the fast-growing plant-based meat category and work toward becoming a more sustainable brand. Meanwhile, Beyond Meat — a new entrant in the food industry — is gaining access to PepsiCo’s production and marketing expertise, CNBC reported.

The product launch comes at a time when Beyond Meat is reportedly struggling to sustain its grocery store sales, as for the past year, it has put its focus into launching partnerships with major fast-food chains. In Q4, the company’s physical store sales in the U.S. market fell by 19.5% to $49.98 million.

Beyond Meat’s CEO, Ethan Brown recently teased the upcoming product launch during the company’s earnings call.

“We have a major product, which I actually have in my hands right now and I’ve been snacking on during the call,” Brown told analysts in February. “That took an enormous amount of time and energy to get ready, and it’s a fantastic product.”
