Amazon is planning to hold a second Prime Day event in Q4, with the first one now scheduled for July 12, 2022, and July 13, 2022.
The company has notified third-party sellers on its marketplace of a “Prime Fall” event and has asked them to submit limited-time “lightning deals” by July 22, 2022, in preparation for the event.
“The Prime Fall deal event is a Prime-exclusive shopping event coming in Q4,” the company’s notice on its internal Seller Central portal said.
“Submit recommended Lightning Deals for this event for a chance to have your deal selected!”
The company’s decision to host its Prime Day event for a second time this year comes on the heels of the slowest quarterly growth it has recorded since the dot-com bubble in 2001, CNBC reported. Slowing demand and a loss in momentum for its Prime Day event are thus forcing Amazon to get creative in its approaches.
Last year, the company launched category-specific days geared toward increasing sales of pet and beauty products, for example.
Whether hosting a second Prime Day will help Amazon significantly boost its sales remains to be seen. Still, the event is bound to help retailers reduce their inventory overload due to the decline in consumer spending in recent months.
