Etsy Launches Image Search Function

Ever come across an image of a product you love but have no idea where it’s from? That is a problem Etsy is seeking to solve with its latest image search functionality, which helps users quickly look for products they cannot find using keywords.

The online marketplace is now letting iOS users discover items through a camera icon displayed in its in-app search bar. From there, the Etsy app provides visually similar products to the image a user has shared.

“We’re always investing in our marketplace to make it easier for sellers to grow their businesses. We’re excited for this new, innovative feature to make it easier for sellers to get discovered and connect with our built-in base of nearly 90 million buyers around the world,” said Han Cho, a product lead for Etsy’s buyer-facing iOS and Android apps.

The launch follows Etsy’s recent appointment of Rachana Kumar, the company’s newest chief technology officer.

Kumar replaced Mike Fisher, who decided to leave his position to spend more time with his family and pursue other interests. Fisher is expected to stay in his current position until December 31, 2022, and then remain with Etsy in an advisory capacity through April 2023.
