Amazon is introducing smart shopping carts to select Whole Foods stores in Massachusetts, the company announced.

The “Dash Cart” carts will initially be made available at the company’s store in Westford, Massachusetts, and will later be expanded to additional locations across the state.

The cart’s technology will allow customers to tally products as they are added or removed and skip the checkout line by exiting through a special lane, which will automatically charge their credit card for the products in their shopping cart.

According to Amazon, the carts have been designed to fit up to four grocery bags and will include a lower shelf for oversized products, CNBC reported. In addition, these carts have also been designed to withstand harsh weather conditions outdoors. According to Dilip Kumar, who serves as Amazon’s vice president of physical retail and technology, the carts were baked in an oven and put in a giant freezer to test their durability.

Amazon’s decision to expand access to Dash Carts to its Whole Foods stores is part of its effort to allow shoppers to seamlessly checkout at its physical stores. The company first introduced Dash Carts at its Amazon Fresh stores.
