Amazon Workers At Second NY Warehouse Reject Unionization Efforts
Amazon employees at a second Staten Island warehouse location overwhelmingly voted against unionization efforts.

Out of the 1,633 employees at the LDJ5 warehouse that were eligible to vote, a total of 380 employees voted in favor of forming the union, whereas 618 opposed it. Two of the ballots were voided.

The Amazon Labor Union (ALU) called for all LDJ5 workers to receive at least $30 an hour in pay, higher than the $18 an hour national average. Additionally, the union sought longer breaks and improved worker benefits, among other things.

The results are a welcome relief for the eCommerce giant, which saw its other fulfillment center on Staten Island vote in favor of forming the Amazon Labor Union last month.

Over the past several months, Amazon has been tackling a growing wave of unionization efforts from its warehouse workers, fighting for better wages and treatment.

In response, the company has been fighting tooth and nail and has been using a variety of tactics to discourage employees from forming a union. For example, employees at the LDJ5 union were forced to watch the entirety of an anti-union presentation. According to CNBC, the company has also hired an influential Democratic pollster to assist with its union-busting efforts.

“We’re glad that our team at LDJ5 were able to have their voices heard,” said Amazon spokesperson Kelly Nantel. “We look forward to continuing to work directly together as we strive to make every day better for our employees.”

The results of the LDJ5 vote still need to be formally certified by the National Labor Relations Board.
