UPS plans to hire more than 100,000 workers for the upcoming holiday shopping season and is willing to pay as much as $30 an hour for certain positions.
To ramp up its hiring efforts amidst the ongoing Great Resignation wave, the company has streamlined its hiring process, enabling candidates to fill out job applications online and get an offer in less than half an hour. In addition, about 80% of these seasonal roles will not require an interview.
Some of the key positions the company is looking to fill ahead of the holiday season include package handlers, delivery drivers, driver helpers, and tractor-trailer drivers.
“We have made our hiring process as simple and easy as possible,” said Nando Cesarone, UPS’ executive vice president and president of U.S. operations. “UPS’s strength has always been our people, and we are excited about the opportunity to welcome new UPSers to our team as we deliver what matters for our customers this holiday season.”
Many of these seasonal workers stand a chance to become full-time employees at the end of the season. Last year, the company converted 35,000 temporary holiday workers into full-time workers. Some of these workers can make fairly decent wages and get access to healthcare benefits once they become full-time employees. For example, UPS drivers are offered an average base salary of $95,000 and an additional $50,000 in healthcare contributions. Employees also have access to benefits such as tuition reimbursement of up to $25,000.
