Buy now pay later (BNPL) firm Affirm has teamed up with Amazon to extend its services to Canada.
The partnership between the two companies will allow customers to select Affirm as a payment option at checkout on Amazon.ca, which will prompt them to go through a quick and free soft credit check. If approved, eligible customers will be able split their purchases of $50 or more into simple monthly payments within a few seconds.
The move to extend its offering to Amazon.ca follows a growing consumer desire to pay for items over time. According to Bain & Co., BNPL adoption has been accelerating lately, particularly among those under the age of 44.
“We’re always looking to enhance the paying experience for our customers, including how and when they can pay for their orders,” said David Williams, vice president of Amazon payment products. “Introducing Affirm in Canada gives our customers another flexible payment option for their purchases.”
The offering will make the payment option available during checkout to all eligible customers in both English and French within the next month.
“Since launching with Amazon in the U.S., we’ve been providing eligible Amazon customers with a powerful tool to responsibly increase their purchasing power,” said Geoff Kott, Affirm’s chief revenue officer.
