eBay is now partnering directly with brands to help them scale their presence in the secondary market as part of its new Certified by Brand initiative.
In addition to helping brands cut themselves a bigger share of the resale business, the initiative aims to offer customers access to a broader range of sought-after and valuable luxury items. With Certified by Brand, buyers can browse through new, certified pre-owned, exclusive ‘only on eBay,’ and limited-edition inventory from renowned brands such as Le Vian, Zodiac Watches, and Konstantin Chaykin. This program will complement eBay’s Authenticity Guarantee, helping the company cement its place as a more reliable and self-assured marketplace for buyers.
In 2021, the market for high-end and luxury products witnessed substantial growth, driven by consumers’ enthusiasm for collecting and investing in passion projects. This trend has nudged luxury brands toward the resale space, where they have established a more robust presence by partnering with other industry players. eBay has launched its Certified by Brand program to cater to these brands and authorized sellers by offering access to its massive pool of 133 million active buyers and providing valuable customer insights from its global network of buyers.
“Certified inventory in the resale market is an undeniable opportunity for brands and authorized retailers, and eBay is the ideal partner for those looking to scale,” said Tirath Kamdar, Global general manager of luxury at eBay. “eBay’s Certified by Brand program broadens access to both buyers and brands to shop and sell luxury goods with confidence and certainty.”
The Certified by Brand program will feature an expanding lineup of premier luxury brands offering watches, handbags, and fine jewelry. Each item listed within the program will bear a badge indicating either “Direct from Brand” or “Brand Authorized Seller” alongside relevant details about the Certified by Brand program. This badging system will help buyers quickly spot items included in the program, similar to how eBay’s Authenticity Guarantee checkmark distinguishes verified inventory.
