Maison Margiela has hired fashion industry veteran Gaetano Sciuto as its new chief executive, effective July 17, 2023.

Sciuto brings more than 30 years of experience in the luxury sector, having previously served as the CEO of Giorgio Armani Americas since 2019.

He also previously worked as the president of Fendi Americas for five years and as the director of licensing and accessories for the Roman brand, a role in which he oversaw the global development of categories such as home, fragrance, eyewear, leisure wear, textiles, and children’s wear.

Some of the other global brands Sciuto has worked for include Carl Zeiss Vision’s Sunlens division, Sebastian International, Lotto Sport, and Sola International.

“I am very attached to Maison Margiela, one of the fashion world’s most iconic brands,” said Renzo Rosso, the chairman of OTB Group, the parent company of Maison Margiela. “Stefano will take on great responsibilities and this appointment is an important step in his career.”

Rosso acquired Maison Margiela in 2002 and helped steer the brand through challenges when founder Martin Margiela stepped down in 2014. He is also credited with hiring John Galliano, the brand’s creative director, in 2014.

In addition to Sciuto’s appointment, Rosso also revealed his plans to relinquish his chairman position to his son Stefano Rosso after serving for 21 years in the role.

“Stefano’s new role and Gaetano’s arrival will be decisive in boosting the potential of the brand and steering it into the next stage of its expansion,” Rosso added.
