Walmart Expands Store Fulfillment Strategy with First Market Fulfillment Center in Arkansas

Walmart has introduced its first high-tech Market Fulfillment Center (MFC) In Arkansas.

Located at 406 S Walton Blvd in Bentonville, the launch of the store represents Walmart’s strategic efforts to expand the use of its stores as fulfillment centers, ultimately enhancing the shopping experience for customers across the globe.

The company has integrated the MFC into its store by utilizing a unique storage and retrieval system known as Alphabot. Walmart believes that digitization and the seamless connection of its store and supply chain resources will revolutionize the fulfillment process, increasing customer satisfaction and greater opportunities for associates.

“This new order fulfillment system is truly game changing,” said Ryan Simpson, the store manager at the Bentonville store. “Not only does it enhance the customer experience through quicker, more accurate online order fulfillment, it also provides us the runway to continue growing our business now and in the future.”

The introduction of market fulfillment centers will notably enhance the store’s capacity to fulfill more orders in a single day, ensuring faster and more accurate fulfillment with fewer substitutions. Walmart+ members can anticipate additional benefits, such as free unlimited delivery.
Furthermore, the MFC will contribute to an improved in-store shopping experience by freeing associates to assist customers shopping in person.

Associates can look forward to more dedicated time for essential responsibilities, such as delivering enhanced customer service and nurturing a supportive workplace atmosphere. Furthermore, introducing the Alphabot system creates openings for new leadership positions in stores, including the newly established role of MFC Lead. This expansion brings forth opportunities for associates to acquire and share tech-forward skills, enabling them to broaden their understanding and proficiency in cutting-edge technologies and providing a ladder of upward mobility within Walmart.

“I love the MFC. The dedicated space allows us to concentrate on picking items for our online customers,” said Gilbert Giron, an MFC digital team lead at Walmart. “I feel confident that the items our associates are looking for are going to be there when a customer wants them. That makes me feel good because I know our team is providing our customers with great service.”
