TikTok Shop Rolls Out Authentication Service for Handbags

TikTok Shop has teamed up with authentication service provider Real Authentication to authenticate handbags sold on its platform.

The partnership will see Real Authentication’s team of experts vet the authenticity of each handbag before they are listed for sale on TikTok Shop, giving consumers a stronger sense of confidence in making purchases.

Real Authentication’s vetting process involves careful assessment of every minute detail, starting from general product information to the denier of a stitch. In addition, the company runs a Smart Database Scan to crosscheck numerous data points against the values in its system, with the goal of identifying any potential red flags, which are then further analyzed by brand experts.

Once Real Authentication approves the bag, the seller is allowed to create a listing on TikTok Shop, showcasing a unique authentication certificate for their product.

TikTok Shop’s move to offer authentication guarantees follows similar efforts by platforms such as eBay. However, eBay’s approach differs from TikTok as it authenticates products before they are shipped to the buyer.

“A point of difference between Real Authentication’s partnership with TikTok Shop in the US and other platforms is that items are already authenticated BEFORE they are listed, not after they are sold,” said Jenna Padilla, Real Authentication’s co-founder and authentication expert.

“With more consumers shopping online, TikTok Shop in the US provides a one-stop eCommerce solution that makes it easy for merchants to showcase and sell directly through their TikTok account.”
